Decoding Schaeffer Grease Caps Colors

Have you ever wondered what the colored cap means on Schaeffer Grease tubes?

Schaeffer introduced a new cap color scheme as follows:

Schaeffer greases come in different NLGI thicknesses for various kinds of applications. NLGI stands for the NATIONAL LUBRICATING GREASE INSTITUTE. The higher the number the thicker the grease.

The caps are color coded as follows:

• #00 Black (semi-liquid)
• #0 White 
• #1 Red 
• #2 Yellow (most common) 
• #3 Clear (thickest)
