Hybrid engines operate under lubrication conditions that didn't exist when most engine oil specifications were written. Each time the gasoline engine restarts from EV mode — potentially dozens of times per commute — it experiences a high-speed cold-start event where oil film hasn't fully replenished on critical surfaces. Short operating cycles prevent the engine from reaching full temperature, allowing moisture to accumulate in the oil rather than being expelled.
