This can be done primarily by adding moly (aka molybdenum). Moly has a natural affinity to metal surfaces. The moly will plate to metal surfaces and form a long-lasting solid lubricant film that will withstand pressures up to 500,000 pounds per square inch! Sometimes in very extreme situations, copper and graphite are also added. This will also reduce the temperature at the point of impact, which helps to lengthen the overall lifespan of the machinery in question.
